Taraba State Polytechnic bans tribal associations over Jukun / Kuteb crisis in the institution

Taraba State Polytechnic School leadership banned all tribal associations from the school

The action came in the wake of the bloody clashes that erupted on the school premises during the registration exercise which has just ended.

The bloody clash between the Jukun and Kuteb ethnic groups also reportedly disrupted the registration exercise as activities were hastily halted to avoid loss of life.

In a circular from the registrar’s office and signed by Kwesinde Biki, the management unanimously decided to suppress all forms of tribal associations within the campus.

Apart from school theatrical art and school media groups which would be allowed to perform on school grounds, particularly during registrations or any other activity, tribal associations, according to management, have been suspended.

In addition to the ban, tribal student unions and associations, as directed by the school leadership, will now be registered under local government and on a special development basis.

The rector, Ayuba Ibrahim, who was dissatisfied with the evils perpetrated by the students, pledged to travel additional legitimate miles to bring the perpetrators of the heinous acts to justice.

According to him, plans are already in the pipeline to ensure that all culprits face disciplinary action.

While urging students to remain calm, the need for those considering retaliatory attacks to urgently abandon the plans, he said, can no longer be overstated.

Student Union (SUG) government president Richard Dauda called the students’ actions “unfortunate,” the union executive said, making every effort to restore permanent peace to the campus.

Some of the students who also spoke with our correspondent applauded the efforts of the school administration in taking the bull by the horns by suspending all forms of tribal associations.

Rather than promoting such associations on a campus, the leadership, as they suggested, should collaborate with the SUG by coming up with an association that would promote the unity of the state and the country as a whole.
